Jordan Wolken

Global President

Jordan is passionate about socially innovative technologies that improve living standards in low-income communities. A recent graduate of the Business and Political Economy (BPE) Program at the NYU Stern School of Business, Jordan was one of two Stern graduates to receive the Dean Blount Social Impact Award for his commitment and dedication to driving positive impact. While at NYU, he co-founded the school’s only international development club, worked for his local congressman on Capitol Hill, consulted for social enterprises in rural Ghana, and interned for 2019 Hult Prize Finalist Proteen, a Ugandan sustainable agriculture startup. Curious about the world, Jordan has studied in London, Shanghai, and Paris and interned in New York, Tel Aviv, and Washington D.C. in both the public and private sectors. 

Jordan joined BfE in 2017 and founded and led the New York Chapter from 2018 until May 2020. He successfully grew BfE New York from 2 people to a full-fledged chapter with over 40 talented and passionate students working across four teams. As Global President, he is currently responsible for leading the organisation by developing and executing strategic objectives alongside the global management team.

Isabel Brüggemann

Global Communications Head

Isabel supports the Global Communications Team at BfE. She joined BfE in 2017 as a member of the Start-up Recruitment Team in Cambridge and has been Vice-President of the Cambridge Chapter in 2018. 

Isabel holds a PhD in Organisation Theory (with a focus on Social Innovation in developing economies) from Cambridge Judge Business School. She is passionate about social entrepreneurship research and teaching and is currently responsible for progamme management in the area of Innovation at the UN Secretariat in New York (Department of Operational Support).

Xiao Yen Thean

Global Partnerships Head

Xiao Yen currently leads BfE’s partnership outreach efforts, aiming to form strong and sustainable relationships with organisations across the globe. Aiming to add value to the BfE programme and ecosystem, she hopes to form more meaningful and strategic partnerships with organisations within the social enterprise ecosystem. Xiao Yen graduated from the University of Cambridge with a BA in Geography with Management Studies. With an interest in startups and international development, she first joined BfE Cambridge as a Consulting Associate in 2017 and led the Consulting team as a Director in 2018. Since leading the Cambridge chapter as President in 2019, she has also taken up the role of Global Startup Outreach Manager in 2020. Xiao Yen is now based in Kuala Lumpur, currently working at Strategy& Southeast Asia. Prior to this role, she has worked with Sunway iLabs Ventures and Creador.

Jeson Ng

Global Operations Head

Jeson oversees the operational flow of the BfE Incubation Programme. He is primarily responsible for assessing whether BfE is best placed to support social enterprises that apply to the Programme and subsequently matching the startups’ interests and needs with the expertise of student teams and professionals across the BfE Network.

An Arabist by training, Jeson has lived, studied and volunteered across the Middle East and has a strong interest in bridging the resource gap in developing parts of the world in sustainable ways. Jeson was a founding member of BfE in 2015 and led startup recruitment efforts in Cambridge before becoming the Chapter’s Vice President in 2017. He is now pursuing a PhD in Arabic literature at the University of Chicago.

Aaron Tam

Global Impact Research Head

Aaron leads internal research at BfE on impact measurement and evaluation. He has an interest in social entrepreneurship and is passionate in supporting bottom-up initiatives in low and middle income countries. As a university student, he led education initiatives in Hong Kong and Vietnam respectively, and served as a mentor on social venture weekends hosted by the Cambridge Judge Business School. Aaron joined BfE in 2016 and has led the Cambridge chapter as BfE scaled up globally in 2017.

Aaron is an economist by training and has a professional focus on climate change and sustainable development. He holds a BA in Economics from the University of Cambridge and an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Vanessa Bauer

Global Incubation Head

Vanessa joined BfE in 2017 as a Global Manager of Incubation. Since 2019, she has been co-heading BfE’s global incubation division, supporting BfE Chapters in maintaining a high quality incubation programme. 

Vanessa holds a B.A. in Intercultural Communication from the University of Milan-Bicocca as well as an M.St. in International Relations from the University of Cambridge. Having lived, worked and studied in Europe, Latin America and Asia, Vanessa has developed a strong intercultural competence and a passion for sustainable development, social entrepreneurship and innovation. Currently, she works as a Junior Advisor at GIZ’s Emerging Markets Sustainability Dialogues, supporting change agents from public, private and financial sectors to advance the global debate on sustainable infrastructure and to scale up innovative sustainable infrastructure solutions. Prior to that, Vanessa gained professional experience as a Carlo Schmid Fellow at UN Environment, as public sector advisor at PwC Luxembourg and as a communications consultant at the Italian SME imaginary srl.

Kristen Yang

Global Incubation Head

Kristen joined BfE in 2016 as a university fresher at Cambridge University, and was the VP of the BfE Incubation Programme in 2017-2018. She joined the Global Team upon graduation and is now co-heading the Global Incubation Team.

Kristen is a graduate of economics from Cambridge University. After graduation, she worked as a management consultant at Oliver Wyman London until July 2020. She is now pursuing a Master’s degree as a Schwarzman Scholar at Tsinghua University in Beijing.

Kevin Huang

Global Technology Head

Kevin manages technology strategies and data infrastructure at BfE. He is passionate about technology for social goods, which in BfE’s context translates to developing technological solutions for both internal work at BfE and our entrepreneurs across the globe. Kevin joined BfE in 2016, led the Cambridge Chapter in 2018, and became part of the global leadership team in 2019. He was involved in setting up the Data Analytics and Technical Advisory teams and subsequently building the Technology Division.

Having obtained his BA in Mathematics and Master of Mathematics from the University of Cambridge, Kevin is currently pursuing a PhD degree in theoretical machine learning at Gatsby Unit, University College London with a full scholarship under the Gatsby Charitable Foundation. His research focuses on interpretability of machine learning models via the lens of statistical and probabilistic theories. Kevin also has a broad range of experience in real-life software applications, in areas including but not limited to business data analysis, web application development, mathematical imaging and natural language processing.

Shaun Teo

BfE Founder and Bridges Initiative Trustee

Shaun is deeply passionate about bridging the gap between career success and making a difference in the world. He founded BfE in 2015 after spending a summer in Tanzania developing an entrepreneurship programme, where he saw how professional skill-sets could be used to empower local social entrepreneurs in developing countries. Shaun currently works in the real estate private equity sector in London, and has past experiences in buy-side investments and investment banking at Deutsche Bank and HSBC. At age 18, he co-founded a non-profit organisation that promotes youth empowerment in Singapore and has mentored several youth initiated community projects through his work as a council member at Singapore National Youth Council’s “Young Changemakers” programme. Shaun graduated from the University of Cambridge with a B.A Hons in Economics and Management. 

Tanya Chiaranussati

BfE Founder and Bridges Initiative Trustee

Tanya is passionate about finding sustainable ways to alleviate poverty. Her interests in development work stemmed from multiple trips to developing countries from a young age and her internship with VisionFund Cambodia in their microlending programme. Tanya is particularly passionate about matching capital to social enterprises and charities with high impact potential. She worked in Credit Suisse’s investment banking division helping companies raise money through the equity markets and now works for a buy-side equity investment fund helping its stakeholders find good investment opportunities. Tanya graduated from the University of Cambridge with a B.A Hons in Economics.

Eric Golden

Managing Director at Fortress Investments Group

Eric Golden is a Managing Director of Fortress Investment Group (Japan) focused on real estate private equity in Japan and Asia. Prior to joining Fortress in 2008, Mr. Golden worked at Credit Suisse / Donaldson, Lufkin, & Jenrette for nine years investing in real estate in the US, Japan, and China. Eric is also on the board of Room to Read Japan, a charity supporting education in Asia and Africa, and Second Harvest Japan, the first food bank in Japan. Eric graduated from Brown University in 1999 with a B.A. in Mathematical Economics.

Irina Scarlete

Founder and CEO of AMNIe.org

Irina has over 12 years of Management Consulting and Strategy and Operations experience at Accenture. While there, she formed and launched the Clean Innovation Community Practice, which matured to over 45 practitioners in under 6 months.

Irina also helped launch two Strategy practices, multiple products and services and the Accenture Vancouver Innovation Hub. She brings over 10 years of programme management experience, having overseen over $600 million in projects.

She now is the CEO of AMNIe.org where she helps organisations establish sustainable end-to-end strategies and scale opportunities for impact across economic, environmental and social outcomes. She also works extensively with entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs with a focus on sustainable development and collective action. 

Based in Vancouver, Canada, Irina holds a joint MBA from IE/Brown Universities, was a certified Program Manager for 10 years, and holds an undergraduate degree in Finance and International Business from McGill University.

Lukasz Czerwinski, MBA

Sustainability and Social Impact Consultant

Lukasz loves helping impacted-oriented companies and organisations design strategies that promote structural change and social justice to make a positive impact on our planet and society. It’s the reason he joined the United States Peace Corps after completing his undergraduate degree, and why he chose a career path that entails solving some of the world’s most complicated problems.

Over his 18+ year career, Lukasz has worked with fortune-500 companies, governments, and NGOs to address issues related to sustainability, social impact, climate change, sustainable agriculture, business and human rights, economic development, and global health. He has a passion for technology focused projects and a strong track record in building lasting partnerships that lead to social change. 

In his freetime, you can find Lukasz in the mountains backcountry skiing, alpine climbing, or mountaineering. 

Agostine Ndung’u

Business Development Consultant

Agostine Ndungu is a management professional with over 8 years of experience in the African social enterprise and impact investing space, working with leading organisations such as Ashoka, Impact Hub, Intellecap (Sankalp Forum) and Endeavor. A life-long learner and Pan-Africanist, Agostine is passionate about the role of interpersonal communication skills in transcending cross-cultural and cross-generational barriers. He graduated from Amherst College in the US, with a duo-degree in Black Studies and Political Science. He is the author of, “Coming to Black; a Journey Through Time, Space and Race” and currently lives with his family in Nairobi, Kenya.

Krisila Benson

Founder and Principal of Propelevate

Krisila Benson is the Founder & Principal of Propelevate, a consulting firm that supports companies and organisations to drive, measure and scale transformative social impact.  Krisila has extensive experience designing, launching, leading, scaling, measuring and supporting social ventures in the private sector that generate measurable impact. She has worked in a range of sectors including health, notably as PSI’s Country Representative in Guinea and the Central African Republic, and Program Director in India; and in economic growth, notably as a Senior Director of Program Development and Program Services at TechnoServe. Krisila holds an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley and a BA from Boston University.

Morrison Rwakakamba

Global Senior Director of Policy at Fenix International

Morrison Rwakakamba is the CEO of Agency for Transformation (AfT), a public policy think tank on agriculture, energy and environmental democracy. Morrison has 15+ years of experience in private sector development, project development and execution, public policy analysis and government.

As Global Senior Director of Policy at Fenix International, a company of ENGIE, Morrison is a member of the global senior leadership team. He manages a team of policy professionals working with and engaging governments and off-grid sector stakeholders to create a conducive policy environment necessary to expand energy access across Africa and the globe. Morrison was elected by global energy industry leaders on the Board of Global Off-Grid Lighting Association (GOGLA), where he served as Vice President. He is also currently serving as a Board Member of Uganda’s Investment Authority. Previously, Morrison served as the CEO of Uganda’s National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Special Assistant to the President of the Republic of Uganda from 2013 to 2017, charged with public policy research and information to the Presidency.

As a HIID Merit Scholar and Mason Fellow in Public Policy Management, Morrison graduated with a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Harvard University – Kennedy School of Government in 2016. He received his first degree in Education from Makerere University, Kampala in 2003, and later attended the School of Political Science at Makerere University where he obtained a Master’s Degree in International Relations and Diplomatic Studies (IRDS) in 2006.
