Medha

Education in India

Business & Impact

Medha is a non-profit that provides skills training and career counselling to young students in India, helping them to secure and excel at their first job. Since 2011, Medha has trained over 3,000 students across 30 educational institutions, placed them into internships and full-time jobs with 200 renowned employers and built a public-private partnership with the Government of Uttar Pradesh. Medha’s programme is currently generating a significant impact on the alumni’s career outlooks and the local labour market.

The Challenge

As a social enterprise beginning to solidify its foundations, Medha was looking for ways to diversify its funding sources. Medha wanted to obtain funding sources such as retail giving, foundational giving and grants instead of their traditional reliance on CSR funding, as such funding was difficult to use freely for business expansion due to compliance reasons.

Deliverables from BfE New York

  • Marketing Strategy: We provided recommendations for Medha’s online campaigns, such as SEO optimisation and tapping into the Google Ad Grants Programme. We also analysed marketing campaigns of other organisations in the industry to provide insights for Medha to utilize.
  • Analysis of US Retail Giving Behaviour: We conducted market sizing and segment analysis for retail givers in the US and suggested targeting strategies.
  • Foundation Actionability Analysis: We analysed the donation capabilities and standards of various foundations and helped Medha create a marketing framework to align itself with the interests of potential donors.

Lessons for BfE Student Associates

  • Chance to learn about and adapt to a different cultural landscape
  • Valuable communication and feedback experience with client
  • Unique process of thinking about what we can provide the entrepreneur
  • Opportunity to apply problem solving skills
  • Open-ended but structured project environment
