The BfE New York Chapter was founded in Fall 2018 by Jordan Wolken at
New York University (NYU). Jordan joined BfE in Spring 2017 after pursuing his passion for
social impact and public service through an immersive NYU course in
rural Ghana, where he advised a female-led small business to improve
its operations. Motivated to bring BfE to New York, he joined the
organisation when it first considered international expansion outside
of Cambridge. Initially overseeing outsourced engagements with
external consulting partners, BfE New York gradually expanded to
comprise multiple internal teams working with, and supporting, social
enterprise clients.
A successful recruitment cycle paved the way for the chapter to lead its
first Finance Advisory engagement with a solar energy startup in
Zimbabwe. The chapter slowly expanded with each semester and recruitment
cycle. By May 2020, BfE New York had grown from two people to 38
students across four teams, developed a year-long social impact
education programme for freshmen and completed six different client
engagements. The New York Chapter continues to break new boundaries by
improving the quality of its engagements and setting itself up as the
premier social impact consultancy for NYU students.
