ABOUT US
The BfE New York Chapter was founded in Fall 2018 by Jordan Wolken at New York University. Jordan's journey with BfE began in Spring 2017, sparked by an immersive NYU course in rural Ghana, where he advised a female-led small business on improving its operations. That experience deepened his passion for social impact and public service, and when BfE began considering expansion beyond Cambridge, Jordan seized the opportunity to bring the organisation to New York. The chapter started small, initially managing engagements through outsourced partnerships with external consulting groups. Over time, it grew into a fully internal model, with multiple teams working directly alongside social enterprise clients. A strong recruitment cycle soon led to a milestone moment: the chapter's first Finance Advisory engagement, supporting a solar energy startup in Zimbabwe. From there, momentum built steadily with each semester.
By May 2020, BfE New York had expanded from just two people to 38 students across four teams, launched a year-long social impact education programme for freshmen, and completed six client engagements. Today, the New York Chapter continues to push boundaries, raising the bar on the quality of its work and establishing itself as the premier social impact consultancy for NYU students.
