Bridges for Enterprise
🚀 BfE Briefs, Vol. #20
Welcome to the April BfE newsletter! 🎉

Dear BfE community,

I hope you've been doing well and taking advantage of the springtime rolling around! With client engagements wrapping up across our five chapters, I wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to all the hard working team members for producing high-quality client deliverables. I know that these materials will go a long way towards supporting these social enterprises to make them more sustainable (and, ultimately, amplify their impact) in the long-run. Your continued hard-work is exemplified in the number of new applications we received for our Autumn 2023 Cohort, which we will be announcing in the coming months.

Keep up the great work and please reach out with any feedback, ideas, or just to chat!

My best regards,

Jordan (BfE Global President)

🌍 Global Updates

We've continued to make steady progress on various initiatives at the global level. Here's what the global teams have been up to:

🔋 Strategy & Operations

  • Operations (Startup Recruitment):
    • Autumn 2023 Cohort: We received 73 applications from 23 countries, with most startups (80%) continuing to be based in Sub-Saharan Africa. Click here to helps us out by spreading the good news on LinkedIn! 🎉
    • Startup Recruitment is expanding: The BfE New Delhi and BfE Vancouver Chapters are working to set up their own Startup Recruitment teams as we continue to strengthen our core capacities in the BfE Cambridge, Singapore, and New York Chapters.
    • Regional Startup Review Committees: Starting with our Autumn 2023 Cohort, the Global BfE Startup Review Committee will be decentralized and BfE chapters will host twice-yearly regional events more suited to their operating timelines and key stakeholders.

⚙️ Technology

  • Machine Learning and Operations (MLOPs) Project: We are starting a project which aims to build a MLOps (Machine Learning and Operations) system for BfE to allow for a more agile deployment of our existing machine learning models, so these models can be more available and maintainable to end users. Xing (Global Analytics and Algorithm Manager) will lead this project with our new Analytics and Algorithm volunteers, and we aim to gradually split and convert the team into a longer-term MLOps team thereafter.
