Bridges for Enterprise
🚀 BfE Briefs, Vol. #21
Welcome to the August/September BfE newsletter! 🎉

Dear BfE community,

I hope this email finds you doing well and enjoying the summer! It's been a busy last few months, as we have now finished operationalizing the BfE Platform Model to shift global non-profit operations into a more decentralized and regional framework. The Platfom Model will be helpful as we establish BfE across more chapters in different global cities going forward - over the last few months alone, we've received applications to launch new BfE Chapters in Los Angeles, London, Houston, and other parts of India. We're excited by this possibility to expand our impact and believe that this new structure will go a long way towards being more responsive and supportive towards our amazing BfE Chapters. On this note, I'd like to commend Annie ( Global Head of Strategy) for her hard work leading this transition 👏 It was tremendous seeing Jeson (Global Head of Operations) and his team recently spearhead the re-configuration of our Startup Review Commitees into regionalized approaches, whereby two separate chapter-led Review Committees (one in APAC and one in the Americas) were held to select the incoming Autumn 2023 Cohort. We will announce these new social enterprises very soon, and look forward to continuing to strengthen our capacity to support underserved social enterprises around the world.

Take care, and good luck to those who are beginning new semesters!

My best regards,

Jordan (Global President)

🌍 Global Updates

We've continued to make steady progress on various initiatives at the global level. Here's a non-exhaustive recap of what some of the global teams have been up to:

⚙️ Technology

  • The Tech Division has begun a project to upgrade the BfE Public Website. A request for feedback has been sent to all members through Slack to get your input, so please fill out that survey to have your voices heard! We look forward to creating a new look and feel, with updated brand content.
  • The BfE Technology division has migrated from Slack to Meta Workplace as their default communications platform, while the rest of BfE is expected to make the transition by Q1 2024.

🥇 What are the benefits?

    • Information/posts/chats are kept in Workplace and not deleted as is in Slack
    • Workplace can be utilized to build and store a knowledge library to have a more organized way of sharing information
    • Workplace can be an easy way to showcase a BfE Directory, where the entire organization and various team members can be shown
📚 Chapter Updates

The five BfE chapters have continued to shine as summer ends and the new semesters get underway. Here's a non-exhaustive recap of what some of the chapters have been up to:

🇬🇧 Cambridge

  • Most chapter members have been working on their individual projects, internships or holidays back at home during the summer. The Chapter will pick up on activities this month as students return and the semester commences.
  • Over the summer, Soniya (Cambridge President) has been conducting research fieldwork in India on its small-scale businesses and microentrepreneurs. She is focusing on skill-building in marketing practices for small businesses, which has some applicability to the types of social enterprises we support in BfE. Check out some of the photos below!

🇺🇸 New York

  • Chapter Recruitment: The BfE New York Chapter will be onboarding 19 new members this fall, consisting of 11 new members on incubation teams (directly supporting the BfE Incubation Programme) and 8 new outreach members (indirectly supporting the Incubation Programme).
  • Pre-Engagement: Introductory calls between chapter leadership and directors of various teams are happening this month to prepare for engagements and internal growth plans this fall.

🇮🇳 New Delhi

  • Casebook: BfE New Delhi released Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies' first Casebook in its 30 years of existence this May. This book acts as a comprehensive guide for cracking case interviews and guesstimates, and has reached 10,000+ readers in just one month. For any feedback or queries, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at bfe_delhi@sscbs.du.ac.in.
  • Consulting Induction Program: BfE New Delhi conducted training sessions under the consulting induction program covering a wide range of cases from profitability, market entry, and unconventional cases throughout the months of May and June. These training sessions helped our members crack summer internships at Dalberg, Ogilvy, Deloitte Consulting and many more. One of the BfE members is the first one amongst her batch to be working as an Intern at Niti Aayog, the policy think tank of India.
  • Internship Opportunity: A BfE New Delhi alum invited 12+ BfE members in June to intern at a startup, which is India's first caffeinated snack brand.
  • Startup Review: BfE New Delhi members attended the APAC regional Startup Review Committee for the Autumn Cohort in July, and got their projects allocated according to the preferences form filled out by Chapter leaders.
  • Chapter Recruitment: On arrival of the new batch of students in college this August, BfE New Delhi conducted over 6+ open house sessions to amplify awareness about the core values, international projects, newly formed startup recruitment team and many more aspects for over 500 students.
